How to draw a sunset

Draw the horizon line

Draw one straight horizontal line across the middle of your paper. This separates the sky from the ocean and gives the sunset a calm foundation.

Beginner tip: Use a ruler if you want a very straight horizon, or draw it freehand for a softer look.

Place the setting sun

Draw a half circle with its flat side resting on the horizon. Keep the sun near the center so there is room for water and beach details later.

Add the sun's reflection

Below the sun, draw several short, wavy horizontal lines. Make the lines narrower as they move away from the horizon to suggest light reflecting on water.

Beginner tip: Leave small spaces between the reflection lines so the water stays light and simple.

Add a few loose wavy lines on both sides of the reflection. Vary their length and position to create calm ocean texture.

Draw one long curved line across the lower part of the scene. This simple line creates a sandy beach in front of the ocean.

Finish your sunset drawing

Add a few small clouds, tiny sand marks and an optional distant land shape. Keep these final details sparse so the sun remains the focus.
